Helmsley Center for Cancer and Outpatient Care
Avera St. Mary's Hospital
The opening of the Helmsley Center is lifechanging for cancer patients in the Pierre, S.D., community. Thanks to a generous donation from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust, the Helmsley Center now offers Pierre’s first radiation oncology services as well as enhanced cancer treatment options, which means that patients no longer must travel hundreds of miles to receive comprehensive cancer care.
The three-story Helmsley Center connects to the existing St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinic. The building’s centerpiece is a spacious community atrium, complete with fireplaces and a piano to soothe patients and visitors into a peaceful healing space. Nature-inspired materials and patterns reflect the beautiful scenery that surrounds the Center, which patients can see as they recline in thoughtfully selected, heated treatment chairs. With treatment options in environments that feel like home, close to home, patients can return to what really matters in their lives – faster.
