Community Center Addition and Remodel
Shoreview Community Center
BWBR started working with the City of Shoreview on its original Community Center in 1991, part of a civic complex that includes City Hall. Throughout the ensuing decades, Shoreview continued to partner with BWBR to update the pool and provide multiple additions and renovations. In 2003, the team responded to the demand for more community spaces with a new entrance, multi-purpose activity center, additional meeting rooms, new child-focused areas, an improved “Wave Café” snack bar, and an upgraded the fitness experience.
The latest project addresses a crowded pool area and the population shift from senior patrons to younger families. A two-story addition to the existing gym holds meeting rooms on the upper floor and fitness studios on the lower floor. A major, child-friendly outcome from this part of the expansion is that children will no longer have to walk through the gym to access the expanded indoor playground, including age-appropriate space for toddlers.
The one-story addition of the pool area houses an indoor water play area featuring a shallow pool with a deck. Based on the successful use of the two current family changing rooms, six new family changing rooms are adjacent to the pool. The renovation also relocates the seating and dining area adjacent to the Wave Café and expand the lounge on the upper floor.
