Anderson Hall, Bonnier Multifaith Center
Gustavus Adolphus College
Housed within Gustavus Adolphus College’s Anderson Hall, the Bonnier Multifaith Center physically embodies the campus’ growing religious diversity while preparing students “to live and lead in a religiously diverse world.” To extend Anderson Hall’s educational focus into the spiritual realm, the design is flexible and suitable for any kind of religious practice or learning experience — a safe space for everyone to explore the traditions of cultures from around the world.
The worship space is open, bright, and airy, and the room’s orientation was heavily considered during design. Located on a sloped site, the Center features translucent glass for privacy on the western side of the room and clear views of the Minnesota River valley on the eastern side. The room’s entry faces north to support the needs of certain religious beliefs. Additionally, washrooms, movable panels, and various seating options accommodate a spiritual experience, without conveying an aesthetic specific to any single religion.
