Hospital and Clinic
Lakewood Health System
Faced with an aging facility with limited expansion capabilities, Lakewood leaders charged BWBR with assessing their market’s demographic growth areas, determining how the hospital could better capture rising market share and analyzing the costs and benefits of rebuilding versus relocating. Identifying a site that provided the organization greater visibility and growth opportunities, BWBR worked with Lakewood to develop a new facility that seamlessly integrated inpatient, outpatient, and clinical care, improved workplace efficiencies and integrated the healing environment with the natural environment of the neighboring wetlands.
Complemented by an exterior walking trail and patio, the interior design elements echo the facility’s natural theme and create a warm and comfortable environment while using materials that are durable and easily maintained. Patterns in the floor serve as way-finding elements and lighting subtly indicates places where patients, visitors and staff can interact.
