Management Education Center
Minneapolis College and Metropolitan State University
A phased transformation creates a seamless connection of the Old Harmon (1917) and New Harmon (1973) facilities on the Minneapolis College campus. The Management Education Center (MEC) is a partnership between Minneapolis College and Metropolitan State University serving business students from both colleges. New spaces include Hi-Flex classrooms, computer labs, and abundant study areas and floating breakout rooms that are uniquely geared toward Management School pedagogies of team-based, hands-on learning.
The project co-locates faculty offices and business classes in the same facility, easing connections between staff and students. A new entrepreneurship center will also facilitate connections between students and local entrepreneurs, with an open, collaborative space dedicated to mentorship. The space focuses on the Central Business District (CBD) of Minneapolis and features the uncovered, restored 100-year-old trusses that add dimension to the environment. Increased flexibility was another key to serving diverse needs, with technology upgrades that enhance opportunities for virtual engagement, a meditation space, and a room for nursing mothers. The reimagined MEC provides a streamlined experience for students at both institutions to learn, collaborate, and prepare for careers in business.
